Nine in a row for Borough

CROWBOROUGH Athletic completed an amazing ninth successive victory when they crushed a dispirited Lingfield on Tuesday night.

Unbelievably it was the third year running that Lingfield had been on the wrong end of an 8-0 drubbing at the Alderbrook.

Fielding an unchanged side, 'Borough were quick out of the blocks, and as early as the 3rd minute Craig Bishop's header from a Wayne Clarke corner was scrambled off the line. But it was only a matter of time before they scored, and in the 10th minute another Clarke corner was met by Craig Bishop, whose powerful header gave keeper Alan Rogers no chance. Soon after Rogers produced a magnificent save from Danny Baker.

With 'Borough completely dominating proceedings, chances were coming thick and fast, and Lattimer, Page and Baker all had good opportunities. On 33 minutes some tricky work by Gosnell resulted in a cross into the box where the lively Baker beat the keeper with his header only to see the ball bounce back off the bar.

The home supporters were beginning to get a little restless with just a solitary goal advantage, when a dramatic five minutes leading to half time settled matters. In the 40th minute Jack Singer won the ball out wide and his strong run took him deep into the Lingfield half from where he unleashed a pinpoint cross onto the head of Lattimer, who made no mistake as he powered the ball into the back of the net. Before Lingfield could gather their wits, Clarke, who caused the visitors problems all evening, latched onto a defensive error and drove the ball home.

Two minutes later the game was over as a contest when Lattimer slotted in Gosnell's corner from close range.

'Borough emerged for the second half determined to further improve their goal difference, and almost immediately Rogers produced good saves from Singer and Lattimer. He had no chance, however, in the 54th minute when his own defender, under no pressure, somehow contrived to blast the ball into the top corner of his own net. Rogers continued to stand as a lone bastion against the Crowborough onslaught, and in the 55th minute made the save of the game when he somehow turned Singer's drive over the bar.

'Borough were now in irresistible form and in the 66th minute some great link up play between Singer and Gosnell freed Lattimer to knock home number six and complete his hat-trick. Still Crows piled forward and in the 74th minute Craig Gosnell wriggled his way into the visitors box and calmly beat Rogers for the goal his all round display deserved.

For the last ten minutes it was Rogers versus Crowborough, but the home side rounded off the scoring in the 86th minute when Clarke fed substitute Auren Austin who threaded it through to Lattimer for the striker to notch his fourth.

Manager Harry Smith was running out of superlatives after the game, 'I am absolutely euphoric '“ all I can do is eulogise over what was an ineffable display of total football.'

CROWBOROUGH: Collick, Sharman (Foy 73), Fuller, Bishop, Page, Clarke, Baker (Yahyaoui 80), James, Gosnell, Singer (Austin 73), Lattimer.
