NO CUTTING CORNERS

THANK HEAVENS for short corners. That's what Worthing Hockey Club will be saying after salvaging a draw in their Kent-Sussex Regional match at Sutton Valence on Saturday.

All three of their goals came from a penalty-corner routine and their second and third goals '“ both equalisers '“ were scored with time up at the end of each half and play extended for the taking of the set-pieces.

Worthing manager Robert Warner was in no doubt that it was two points dropped, rather than one gained. He said: "We were lucky to get a point and didn't play particularly well. It was a test of character, because the impression I got from the players was one where they thought they had just to turn up and tonk Sutton.

"But I knew that they had been promoted last season and worked hard for each other, so we were not in for an easy ride."
