No mass exodus at Hastings

HASTINGS United chairman Dave Walters is not anticipating a mass exodus of players in the wake of Steve Lovell's resignation as manager.

Three players have already gone but one is entirely coincidental. Midfielder Jon Wallis and goalkeeper Danny Knowles have both returned to Gillingham, whilst opening day hat-trick hero Steve Ringwood has moved to France for work reasons.

The departure of the Gillingham duo, who were on work experience from the Kent club, is not wholly unexpected. "They are in the middle of contract talks so they were always going to go," said Walters. "Other than that they all want to stay."

That was the view after the midweek defeat on Tuesday night but the departure of a manager means there is bound to be a great deal of uncertainty over who stays and who goes.

A number of players were involved in a frank exchange of words in the dressing room after losing 4-0 at Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday night.

Walters added: "There were opinions expressed and it happens from time to time and it's not necessarily a bad thing, it depends how people respond. Whatever happens the club will be going forward and I'm even more determined."
