Nostalgia: Young artists bring a splash of colour to village centre

Hurstpierpoint produced some decent young artists in 1980, as this mural proves.

The 21ft painting depicted some of the buildings and views of Hurst and was produced by 20 members of the village youth club.

The 12-18-year-olds took eight weeks to complete the mural, transforming what had been a drab yellow wall into an explosion of colour.

Led by youth club leader Mrs Liz Harris, the artists pictured were: Geoff Tige, Gary Hall, Hilary Tribe, Kay Oliveros, Sara Hilton and Liz’s daughter Mandy.
