VIDEO: Horsham posters span 200 years

Now, thanks to the work of Friends of Horsham Museum and the funding of the Heritage Lottery Fund, a website (www.horshamposters.com) has been launched that reveals the full splendour of Horsham’s past.

This rare archive of over 1,200 posters has lain hidden from view owing to the delicate nature of many of the surviving items.

But thanks to the work of local volunteers led by the Friends of Horsham Museum information such as what reward there was for information on stolen fat sheep in Georgian times and who organised Charity Daffodil Days in World War One.

The posters provide in glorious typographic splendour a window onto everyday life with the earliest dealing with issues of the day; from the Horsham Prosecuting Society to small squibs which were derogatory poems attacking local politicians.

For over a year the Friends of Horsham Museum have been stabilising, researching and photographing the posters and developing a web site which will allow the world to see what was going on in this ancient market town.
