Worthing Over 21 club resulted in a host of marriages

This photo of the Worthing Over 21 Club from 1961 was originally featured in Looking Back last May.

Daphne and Frank Butler sent the photo in in the hope that some of the members might still live locally.

Mr and Mrs Witten – third and fourth from right on the back row – were the only members of the club to have written in, until now.

Gill Reed (née Brett) wrote in after noticing her parents in the photo.

Gill said: “Sitting centre front, in the light blue dress, is my mum Kath Brett (née Maloney), and to the left of her is Kath Callow (née Matthews) – I’m still in contact with her.

“On the next row back on the left is David Grossman, to the right of him, his twin, Harry Grossman.

“To the right and behind Harry, is his wife, Pam, and to the right and slightly behind Pam, is my dad, Roy Brett.

“On the first standing row, fourth from the left, next to the lady in the orange cardigan, is Charlie Cook, who was a decorator and lived in Lancing.”

Gill added that her mum was secretary of the club for a while, and that the club resulted in quite a few marriages: “Jim and Edith Maloney (my aunt and uncle), Peter and Barbara Searle (still family friends now), Roy and Kath Brett (my mum and dad), and Peter and Betty Jones (also still friends). There were others too, but I don’t know the names.

“Sadly, my mum, dad and Barbara Searle have passed away now, but Jim, Edith, Peter, and Peter and Betty are still alive.”

If you can recognise anyone else in the photo, or have any old photos you would like to share, please get in touch.
