More than 150 students took part in grading at Hastings Kickboxing Academy (HKA) and all students passed successfully.

More than 40 tots (aged 3-6yrs) took part in the grading as they earned their coloured stripes.

The tots’ grading syllabus teaches the tots the basic fundamentals needed in kickboxing. They showed great skills throughout the gradings as they demonstrated to their parents.

Red belts graded next, and it was great to see some of the tots members that have passed their black stripe moving into cadets and passing their red belts in the adult gradings.

Yellow belt is probably the hardest grading for the members as they transition from red to yellow. It’s a huge step up and makes members realise the level of hard work and dedication needed to progress to become a talented kickboxer.

Everyone pushed really hard and found inner strength they never knew they had to make it through the grading.

Those grading for orange belts endured a much harder, longer session and instructors Carl Denne and Jenny Fry were extremely proud to see such a high-level and maturity throughout the whole grading as students were pushed to their limits.

Regarding the green and purple belts, Denne said: “I was secretly concerned for this grading the most. We have talented young members at HKA and these were some of the youngest but highest graded students with us and the green and purple belt test is not easy.

"It’s three hours of constant hard work, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised of the hard work, determination for all of them from start to finish. It was an outstanding level of work rate these young students put in.”

On Sunday another 50 members successfully graded for their white stripes which helps them prepare for their next full grading.
