The Knights were keen to end their season strongly, building on some positive momentum from their previous few games, despite loses.

An experienced Waterside team started strongly, using their inside experience and finishing strong on the break. The Knights quickly found their stride with Connor Ferry making strong moves to the hoop down low and Adam Turvey finding his offensive touch early.

The second quarter saw Sam Freeman and Dane Gignell set the tone on defence with strong, assertive and high intensity work. Ethan Walsh, in his rookie season, built on earlier performances, taking the game to the Stags, draining two three-pointers which opened up strong drives to the hoop. The Knights led by three points at the halfway point.

Kevin Wilson made scoring in-roads to start the second half, along with Stu Hardyman hitting from behind the arc. The Knights defence continued to hold firm but could only trade baskets with the Stags. Isaac Haskell continued to be a defensive nuisance, with high intensity and defensive intent.

Ben Lucas, Walsh and Wilson finished strong at the offensive end, giving the Knights much needed monetum into the final moments. The game came down to the last few minutes where Knights’ composure, resilience in the physical battle and in the end, experience proved worthy of a tight ground-out win.

Knights: Ethan Walsh 19, Kev Wilson 16, Connor Ferry 10, Stu Hardyman 8, Adam Turvey 6, Ben Lucas 5, Isaac Haskell 2, Dane Gignell 2, Sam Freeman. Coach Dave Turner.
