Meanwhile the sprint distance event has been announced as a 2022 World Championships qualifier as well, say TriBourne Multisport Events.

The Eastbourne Triathlon, winner of event of the year in both 2017 and 2019 in the Triathlon England Awards, takes place on Saturday, June 6 over predominantly closed roads.

Bringing together athletes from all abilities and experience, the event takes on an iconic route.

Including a swim against the backdrop of the historic Eastbourne pier, the route takes in roads around the South Downs National Park via Beachy Head on the bike leg and finishes with a run on the iconic seafront promenade.

Race Director Matthew Dowle said: “We’re really pleased to have been awarded qualifier status for the Eastbourne Triathlon, an accolade that the event certainly deserves. Having been twice awarded event of the year in its first four years, it’s a great opportunity to shine a light on this hugely popular event after missing out in 2020 in the pandemic. All signs point to a really exciting event for this summer.”

As expected, 2021 events have been hugely popular, with competition returning this year after a year without racing, and places are now limited for both the standard and sprint distances. This exciting weekend of triathlon in Eastbourne also includes events for all the family, with aquathlons for those aged eight and above, as well as sprint and standard distance relays.

The event sits alongside the wider TriBourne event series which also includes the Ironbourne long distance triathlons on July 18 and the 255 Triathlon, the world’s longest single day triathlon, on August 8.

The series is completed by the XBourne Cross Triathlon on September 19 and the Eastbourne Duathlon on October 10.
