Expect United Front to serve it up to red-hot favourite at Lingfield

With snow thwarting much of this week’s racing around the country, here are three to get your teeth stuck into at Lingfield Park’s all-weather paradise on Wednesday..

The feature race of the day (1:15) seems to revolve around whether the Hugo Palmer-trained Power Of States will be firing on all cylinders - as he aims to make it five victories from his last six appearances.

Should he be in the same spirits as when ending up an emphatic four length victor at Wolverhampton nine days ago, then we will most likely see him land the spoils yet again.

However, if the red-hot five-year-old fails to strike, it may leave the door open for UNITED FRONT to pick up the pieces.

The former Aidan O’Brien recruit was highly tried as a two-year-old, running in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, but ultimately didn’t fulfill the promise he showed early in his career.

Although, on the other side of the Irish Sea, Michael Applebly’s colt has taken well to the artificial surface, finishing second on both occasions.

On his previous run, he settled two wide before kicking for home, eventually being pegged back by subsequent winner Lucky’s Dream. That appearance was over this course and distance and he is on the same mark today.

Whilst having a bit to find with Power Of States, Josephine Gordon’s mount has scope for improvement and may be slightly overpriced.

Fast forward just over an hour and we have six runners battling it out over six furlongs in the Read Katie Walsh On Betway Insider Handicap (2:25).

Mick Quinn’s Invincible Larne demands favouritism after being snatched on the line here eighteen days ago and should go well again - but at 11/8 he looks way too short to be getting involved at. Instead, there are two worth mentioning at a price which could get into contention - the first of which is Michael Attwater’s Real Estate.

Robert Havlin has a good record on board this gelding, having won three times from just six attempts. The six-year-old has previously run well fresh, running gallantly from stall eleven to finish second over this course and distance after a four month break, so could be worth keeping an eye on returning from a one hundred and ninety-six day absence to a track which he has won twice at.

Whilst he may get in the frame, most of his winning has been done at a lower level, and Tony Carroll’s WILEY POST is marginally preferred.

The eight-year-old hasn’t been running well of late, and as such has dropped to an eye catching mark of just seventy-five. On his last run at Kempton he looked to be mounting a strong challenge at the two furlong pole before ultimately weakening a furlong out. This sharper trip around Lingfield should definitely suit, and Elisha Whittington, who’s taken a liking to this eight-year-old (winning twice from five attempts), returns to the saddle claiming a further 5lb.

With only six runners lining up, both contenders are worth interest to lay it up to the well-fancied favourite.

Selection: WILEY POST 10/1 0.5pts

The #betyourway At Betway Handicap (3:35) looks a tricky affair, with all five candidates holding claims, but it may be worth siding with Michel Wigham’s VERNE CASTLE - who has been knocking on the door lately and is taken to go well again from stall two.

When last seen at Wolverhampton, the son of Sakhee’s Secret almost defied stall eight to stay on nicely into second. His penultimate run over this course and distance was equally as good, settling two wide and kicking for home off the bend, looking the likely winner before being caught on the line by Royal Birth.

He still remains 1lb below his last winning mark, and a repeat of either of his last two performances should see him go close in this tight contest.

Selection: VERNE CASTLE 3/1 1pt
