This time, club members were supporting inspirational six-year-old Albert, recently been diagnosed with Batten Disease; a childhood form of dementia.

It is a broad class of rare, fatal, inherited disorders of the nervous system also known as neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses, or NCLs.

Albert’s time is extremely precious and the hope is that crowdfunding will enable Albert, along with his family, including three-year-old brother Wilfred, to create lots of precious, happy memories.

HY Runners want to help Albert’s parents, Holli and Jake, fulfil Albert’s wish list and buy the specialist equipment and treatments he needs.

The HY street challenge for Albert involved members between them running 943 roads all over Hastings on Sunday, totalling 460 miles.

Fiona Norman-Brown, a member of HY Runners, is a friend of Albert’s family and was keen to initiate support.

With just under 500 members in the club, there was plenty of opportunity to donate and run. Supported by family and friends, the funds were well boosted and the club raised an incredible £1500 that will be contributed with pride.

An array of runners took part, from pregnant mums, toddlers, mini members to older members and a few dogs! Some ran nearly 14 miles in their coverage of the town and everyone did their part to ensure no road was left out.

It was an incredible effort from the HY Runners, who are becoming renowned for their team spirit, cooperation and passion for supporting others.

The challenge was another good reason to get everyone out in the fresh air at a time when mental health is very much in focus.
