Lewes Wanderers host more than 20 cyclists for time trial

Round six of Lewes Wanderers proposed 13-event 10-mile time-trial series was the best supported so far with 23 taking to the start line.

Winner for the third event in a row, reducing his PB by another two seconds to 20min 55sec, was Joe Benians Pete Morris (TMC Race Team) was runner-up in 23:05 while Gav Richards (23:40) edged out Peter Baker (23:44), Mike Hannay (23:49) and Richard Burchett (24:02).

Eleventh-placed Neil Edwards took five seconds off his PB in lowering it to 25:50 and newcomer Andrew Razzell broke the 28-minute barrier for the first time with a PB of 26:50. Sole female rider Kate Thomas was 13th with 26:04.

Paul Fletcher, racing for trainSharp, was among 45 racers taking part in the latest of a3crg’s TT-events around the Goodwood racetrack. His time of 26.38 over the 11.8 miles was his quickest of the series.

In the East Sussex Cycling Association 50-mile time-trial (incorporating the Veteran Time-Trials Association Surrey/Sussex Championship), 42 finishers included Benians, who shone as his time of 1:53:38 in his maiden attempt at racing the distance gave him sixth overall and third under-35 male. Fastest female and 13th overall was Sally Turner (trainSharp) in a superb 1:57:19.

Just 12 seconds outside of two hours was fellow trainSharp racer Paul Fletcher second among under-45 men. Third fastest of the five female competitors and second under-35 was Kate Parrish in 2:12:58. Peter Baker was fifth under-65 and 27th overall in 2:08:48.

Joe, Peter and Kate combined proved fifth fastest trio.
