It’s not often you look at a flat race with some in-form candidates and then opt for the contender who’s first run that campaign was in a Juvenile Hurdle, but that is the case with ROYAUME UNI in the Read Katie Walsh On Betway Insider Handicap (1:40).

The Gary Moore recruit began his season over obstacles when finishing seventh of nine at Sandown, and subsequently followed that up with another underwhelming performance at Kempton. And, whilst the ‘Jumpers Bumper’ cards do little as a substitute for the cancelled National Hunt action, it may have paid dividends for this son of Galileo on his latest start when putting a decisive six lengths between himself and his laboured rivals.

When triumphing eighteen days ago, Royaume Uni settled just off a slow pace, before finding a gap down the inside rail to illustrate an impressive turn of foot - clocking an eye-catching final two furlong time in what was almost a hands-and-heels performance.

That form has since been franked with second placed Atomic Jack winning since, and the lack of a clear pacemaker could yet again play into his hands. So, it seems Ryan Moore’s return from a forty day absence may be worthwhile on board his only ride of the day.

But, Social City will want to have something to say about that, coming into this winning four of his last five appearances, but he stands 22lb higher than when winning here in November, and showed signs that his busy winter campaign was taking a toll on him - fading into fourth as a well backed favourite on his last appearance.

Selection: ROYAUME UNI 15/8
