Bognor were handicapped by the absence of No1 and captain Greg Jansz, added to which their opponents all had higher gradings, statistics borne out by the 5-0 win for the University squad.

Jon Corke was Bognor’s No5 and he made a good start against Christopher Morell but the University player controlled matters thereafter, taking the next three to win 11-13, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9.

Steve Enfield stepped in at No4 and ran opponent Richard Cook close in the first but Cook eventually won that and then dominated the tie winning 13-11, 11-4, 11-6.

Bognor’s third string was Ali Campbell in his first match since November and although he levelled against Simon Tunley he could not improve on this with Tunley taking the rubber 11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 11-2.

Pat Jones at No2 for the visitors edged the first playing Richard Adelman, who responded well taking the next three games and winning 9-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-7.

Junior George Porter showed how much he has improved by stepping up to No1 but he had a tough opponent in Xiaomin Meng who took a two-love lead and despite a spirited effort by Porter in the third, Meng took the match 3-0 - score 11-5, 11-8, 12-10.
