CJ Morgan makes the move into car racing this year

Budding motorsport star CJ Morgan is turning his hand to car racing for the first time this year.

He began racing at six years of age taking part in karting competitions across the country and now, at 15, is moving on to cars in the JSCC class for 2021. Morgan has battled against many too drivers over the years with some great success.

As a two man team Morgan and his dad Craig, a self-taught mechanic, worked on a budget and with no team or training, so he has had his work cut out for him. But this hasn’t stopped him. He has won many summer and winter championships at Lydd, Buckmore Park, Bayford and Forest Edge kart tracks.

There have been more trophies around the country. and he won the Kent Cup championship when he was just nine and then again when he was 11.

Moving up classes can be a challenge but this never seemed to prove too difficult for Morgan despite a financial disadvantage and not being part of a team.

Morgan took podium on his first mini max race, then had a few months off for medical reasons before returning with a second place.

He moved classes again and on his first junior max race at 13, being the youngest driver on a grid of 33 competitive racers, he drove superbly to take second place.

In his final race he secured another podium finish.

Then Covid and lockdown came before the 2020 season began and over time he and his parents made the decision to move from karts to cars and – and he begins the junior saloon car championship very soon.

This will involve meetings at Silverstone, Brandshatch, Donnington and other tracks.

Morgan is a Year 10 pupil at Battle Abbey School who have have been great supporters of his racing.

Morgan has just done his Association of Racing Kart Schools test for his racing licence and passed – and is now ready to begin his racing career.
