Tone Zoners race to return to action

Tone Zone members at a recent Goodwood event

Eighteen were out in Dorset, one in Jersey and the rest at Goodwood and Plumpton.

At a very cold Goodwood Motor Circuit runners took to the track for a choice of 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, 20 Mile or Marathon races.

In the 5k were Jack Penfold, Erin Wells and Steve Gracey, setting off at intervals.

An error made the 5k a 4.6k race, but times were adjusted to make the 5k distance and runners who were sent the wrong way received a refund. Penfold’s adjusted time was 16:55 with Wells and Gracey finishing in 18:02 and 20:26.

In the 10k Daryl Fairbrother finished first in his age category in 44:42. Gary Smith finished in 50:04 with Daniel Hughes in 51:35. Bushka Sklandanek finished in 56:42 10 ahead of Beth Suter in 1:06:08 and Jayne Marshall in 1:15:59.

Martin Playford was first in his category in 1:56:23. Tony Holcombe ran well after a long time out with a shoulder injury to finish in 2:06:53. Andy Medlock came home in 2:09:19.

Christo Oosthuizen did the 20-miler in an outstanding 2:07:24 to finish second. Next he plans a marathon.

In Plumpton for a very hilly, muddy and cold trail race Debi Haddleton, Lisa Wadey and Leigh Paige took on a 16.9k (10.5 mile) trail run. Haddleton finished in 2.02.43 with Wadey and Paige finishing in 2:25. Sam Yates did the 9km (5.6 mile) course in 1:18:28.

In Dorset was Luke Simmonds to take on a challenging marathon along the Jurassic Coast taking in 5,362ft of elevation. He completed the tough marathon in a time of 5hr 53.

In Jersey was Tony Hancock, who has been able to race most weeks. He took part in the West Park 5k and finished in a time of 23:17.
