A fleet of 24 boats took to the waves for an afternoon of free sailing – no race, but a great opportunity to get afloat.

Competitive sailing returned on August 9 with two races, back to back, starting at 2pm in excellent conditions. Some 21 boats went out for the first race, with three different starts for different classes.

In the Asymmetric Fleet, line honours went to the Commodore/Vice Commodore pair Michael Copeman and Nicola Palmer, ahead of Dusty Miller and Andy Bullen, both in RS 400s.

Dan Harwood won in the Fast Fleet in his Laser, 41 seconds ahead of Ross Allen.

The Catamaran Fleet had only 39 seconds separating Tony Lane and Tina Cooper in first from Mark Scheldt and Lucy Spencer.

For the Slow Fleet, Lee Robert’s Europe came first, just ahead of Fi Brown’s Comet.

Just before the second race, the wind picked up so several boats returned to the shore.

The nine boats that stayed out raced on, with a few capsizes.

The Asymmetric fleet reversed first and second from the first race, 18 seconds the margin.

Dan Harwood kept his first place, with Shaun Washer taking second. Ben Watts led the Cats, with Tony and Tina not far behind, and Logan Adams took the Slow fleet in his Topper.
