It was a terrible year for many people – and the pandemic meant that for the first time in its history, Worthing Pavilion BC had to close.

But now it is ready to reopen on Tuesday, April 20. The club will hold its opening drive for members with four sessions throughout the day.

WPBC is unique in the Worthing area as it is the only bowls club where you can bowl all year round. It boasts two county-class greens with a total of 12 rinks available for members to use. The club also has six indoor rinks available throughout the year. Clubhouse facilities include men’s and ladies changing rooms, a bar, a restaurant and a social area.

Benefits of playing bowls include the fact it is not too strenuous, it is an all-weather game, it is sociable and fun. It’s also affordable and WPBC has a range of membership types to suit circumstances. There is a full subscription for the year, a summer only or winter only alternative or a social subscription.

There is a thriving junior section where young bowlers are developed – some go on to play for the county. Bowls also promotes good health – it improves hand/eye coordination and strengthens muscle tone, leading to stronger bones, muscles and joints. Regular exercise prevents depression and anxiety and promotes healthy sleep patterns.

Another benefit is that joining a bowls club will give you a sense of belonging, so you will feel part of a team. WPBC runs two teams in the West Sussex Bowls League as well as competing in the town’s Stracey and Brodie competitions. It also holds a variety of competitions for its members for all ranges of ability.

If you’re new to the game, WPBC has a team of coaches that will teach you how to play the game. You may be surprised at how quickly you pick up the skills. You can watch when the club hosts county matches on its greens:
