Paul breaks Harriers record with a terrific finish in sunny London

It was a record breaking V50-54 marathon Harriers Club record for Paul Cousins with a fantastic finish of 2.55:37 at the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday. He broke the club record which has stood since 1985.

Paul has had a brilliant season and continues to show his true class. He was among the top 1000 with 930th position and 33rd in his age category. The race was very busy with 36,000 taking part in this 34th running of the race. A fantastic run in London too for Jack Chivers 3.17:19, a new PB by 9 minutes. This too after taking part in the Road Relays the previous afternoon. For his 6 months pregnant wife and all round wonder woman, Natalie Chivers a superb run of 4.56:49.

Partially sighted Harrier, Mike Scholes finished in 3.24:42 alongside his guide runner Garry Saunders. A great run for Mike in this extremely busy race where his poor sight was no object.

Next home for the Harriers was Dave Roper 3.29:19 who was pleased to complete in this fine time. Andrew Biggs 3.30:07, a mere 7 seconds away from his target of sub 3.30. But ran great race to improve his marathon PB by 9 minutes.

Marion Hemsworth ran well in the strong sunshine finishing in 4.28:26 . Harrier Hos Davies delighted to complete in 5.18:07 – a first full marathon running for the Variety Club at 65. Running with youngest son Paul who was 1 second behind - pipped at the line!

At the Hartfield 10k, speedy Rob Watts and his quick wife, Mags Lazell took home matching 1st place trophies for winning the male and female race cheered on by their young children. Full results are awaited.

113 runners at the 5k Park run at Clair Park on Saturday Morning. Won this week by Louis Taub, 3rd was Harrier Richard Sutor 20.03, 14th Kat Barrett new PB 22.18, Sue Robinson on her 1st run completed in 27.18.

At the Saturday afternoon ‘Road Relays’ for the Harriers Masters ladies team they were delighted with a fourth the place finish : Margaret Hollamby, Ann Sinett and Debbie Day with 44.48. It was 9th position from the 16 scoring teams for the Harriers Senior men.
