The 18-year-old Chichester player featured at No3 alongside Tin-Tin Ho and Maria Tsaptinsos in the junior girls’ team event in Bratislava and enjoyed some vital victories, particularly after Tsaptsinos had to withdraw part-way through the tournament with a shoulder injury.

Bishop Luffa School student Peake had a 100 per cent record in the qualifying groups as England beat Greece, Finland, Switzerland and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

She maintained that record in the first round proper as England overcame Estonia 3-0 and in the first play-off round as Germany were beaten 3-1.

That put England into the play-offs for the top eight places, but Tsaptsinos’ injury hit against eventual champions Romania as Peake lost her unbeaten record and England were beaten 3-2.

Peake lost both her matches against Sweden, who won 3-2 to send England into a match for seventh place against Belgium. It was a happy ending for Peake as, having lost her first match, she won the deciding rubber against Margo Degraef 3-2 (9-11, 11-9, 15-13, 9-11, 11-5) to seal a 3-2 victory and seventh place for England.
