Play-off fate in H&B hands

With only two games left to play, the rugby club has moved back into second place in Kent One after soundly beating Foots Cray 67-15 last weekend.

H&B are a point above third-placed Cranbrook so two bonus point wins from their remaining games would set up a promotion play-off against the Sussex One runners-up for a place in London Three South East next season.

H&B head coach Kevin Smith said: “Everybody is pleased that our hard work has paid off. It’s in our hands and we’ve got it within us to keep pushing on.

“We are motivated and what I’m looking for is for the guys to keep playing rugby, have faith in the players around them and keep their discipline. If we can do those three things then we’ll do okay.”

H&B are away to mid-table HSBC tomorrow (Saturday) before hosting bottom half side Old Gravesendians next weekend. Cranbrook face away games against third-bottom Sittingbourne tomorrow and, significantly, leaders Park House next weekend.

“If we do our homework, do everything right and play for 80 minutes, then we should get the win,” added Smith.

Rye Rugby Club, meanwhile, is due to visit bottom-of-the-table Lewes II in Sussex One tomorrow.
