Players from all over world descend on Rye

Players from all over the world are set to take part in the Rye Lawn Tennis Club Open Tournament.

Entries have been received from Germany, Austria, France, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Italy, Poland and Japan.

As well as the strong international presence, players from some of the top domestic clubs, including the All England LTC (Wimbledon), are part of a 270-plus entry for a four-day event which begins tomorrow (Friday).

Some of the top names set to grace the grass courts of the Military Road club include former Davis Cup player Robin Drysdale, plus Tony, Jane and Richard Henman (father, mother and brother of former British number one Tim Henman), and recent All England LTC chief executive Chris Gorringe.

Anybody interested in watching or playing tennis is invited to come along from 2pm on Monday to watch the men’s and ladies’ singles finals, and subsequent presentation ceremony entirely free of charge.

The Rye LTC Open Tournament is the opening event of the Rye Tennis Festival. The festival will continue with the Junior Tournament on August 8-9, Teenagers & Twenties Tournament on August 10 and lastly the Mixed Doubles Tournament on August 11.
