Pleasure riders help boost charity funds

The Lord Leconfield Pony Club, based at Petworth held another very successful sponsored ride on Sunday at Petworth Park estate.

About 240 riders '“ up on last year '“ took part in an event blessed with glorious sunshine. Organisers were delighted with the attendance and the smooth running of the day.

It is hoped that more than 5,000 has been raised '“ the proceeds will be divided among the pony club, Cranleigh Riding for the Disabled and the carriage driving group Happy Landings which is affliated to Riding for the Disabled Association.

Riders aged from five to sixtysomething were able to enjoy fabulous parkland views and access to estate land not normally open to the public.

For all but the very younger riders on lead rein ponies, a 10-mile route was mapped out around the woods and fields which are part of the Leconfield estate. Riders on lead rein ponies were escorted around a much shorter route which was confined to the park.
