Pogue power sparks United

Substitute Kenny Pogue inspired Hastings United to a come-from-behind 3-1 win away to Aveley on Saturday.

The striker fired home a stunning equaliser and then helped to set up the other two goals as Hastings maintained their unbeaten start to the season in the Ryman Premier.

Trailing to David Knight's perfectly-placed 56th minute free kick, The U's were really struggling until Pogue latched onto a seemingly aimless ball some 25 yards out from the Aveley goal.

The former Sussex County League player immediately let fly with a cracking shot which thundered past goalkeeper Matthew Bennett and was still rising as it smacked into the back of the net.

Not long after, Pogue turned provider for Ade Olorunda who ignored the offside appeals to sidestep Bennett and slot into an empty net.

Hastings made sure of the points when summer signing Fraser Logan claimed his first goal for the club with an unerring finish after more good work by fellow substitute Pogue.

Hastings: Masters, Jirbandey, Elford, Beales, Russell, Storey (Logan 64), Cade (Pogue 59), T. Olorunda, A. Olorunda, Adams, Eldridge. Subs not used: Phillips, Richardson, Chalmers-Stevens.

A full report will appear in Friday's Hastings Observer.
