Poppy gets to church on time

A VETERAN welsh cob named Poppy played an important part in her owner's wedding at North Chailey on June 6 thanks to a Sussex horse move specialist.

Bride Sally Edwards, who has owned Poppy, aged 27, for the last 20 years, wanted the mare included in the wedding ceremony along with her eight-month-old Labrador cross.

But Poppy has been known to stubbornly take an average of 90 minutes to load into a horse box and there were fears she would have to be left behind.

Eight years ago Brighton-based Michelle Rothwell had swapped her city desk where she dealt with emerging markets, for the horse world, where she had seen a need for horse transport with a difference.

She founded Horsemove, where she has worked with renowned horse whisperer Monty Roberts and his British protegee Kelly Marks, handling some of south's trickiest equines. Her horse lorry is designed specifically with a flat ramp to make it less daunting for horses to load.
