Power failure hits Wealden again

THE lights went out on Wealden again before their prestigious friendly against Sussex Cricket Club on Tuesday evening.

A local power failure caused the game against Seaford a fortnight ago to be abandoned at half-time with Wealden winning 2-0.

And on Tuesday the planned game against the cricketers did not start as the lights went out during the warm-up session.

Manager Andy Gander said: 'It was so embarrassing, we had the Sussex cricketers here, had invited guests and expected a large crowd.

'It was the same problem as before, a fault with the local substation which knocked out power to a local restaurant and a handful of houses.

'You would have thought they would have corrected it properly last time.

'There was no chance of playing the game as EDF did not arrive to fix it until 10.30pm.

'We are due to be at home to Lancing on Tuesday evening but that game looks in doubt as the league want us to prove the problem has been fixed before we play any more floodlit games.'
