PRESTON PUMMLED BY UNITED

IF EAST PRESTON still have the appetite for promotion from Divison Two, then it was hardly evident on Friday night, when they crumbled at the feet of Worthing United.

The defeat left them in fourth 17 points away from third-placed Eastbourne Town with still seven matches in hand. Assuming Eastbourne win their remaining two games, EP can only afford to drop six points, and then it will be down to goal difference.

The opening 18 minutes all but put the game beyond Vic Short's men. By that time, they were 3-0 down and had been reduced, quite correctly, to 10 men.

It all went wrong for EP after just 34 seconds. United's Adam Westwood got up well to head towards goal, but, although East Preston keeper Brett Simmonds palmed the ball away, Nigel Waller slid in to grab United a shock lead.
