RACHAEL REACHES NO 9

RACHAEL OGDEN moved into the top 10 fastest British 800 metre runners this year and is now 2.3sec short of the English qualifying time for the Commonwealth Games. She was fourth in the top race of the British Milers Club Grand Prix meeting at Watford, in 2min 4.3sec, after working her way through the field. That lifts her six places to ninth in the UK leading times of the outdoor season.

The 25-year-old Worthing Harrier from York had won the National Inter-Counties title at Bedford a fortnight earlier in 2min 6.05sec. Her personal best of 2min 3.9sec was done two years ago, before injury ruled her out last summer. That 2003 season she was Southern Counties champion and qualified automatically for the invitation the AAA Championships and she attempts to regain that title this weekend at Ashford.
