Racing fans flock to point-to-point

CROWDS took advantage of the fine weather to flock to Catsfield for the annual point-to-point event on Sunday.

The going was the firm side of good on the dog-bone shaped course at Buckholt Farm, which meant fewer than expected horses actually took part.

Organiser Andrew Hickman was still pleased with the day's racing. "It was a very successful day because of all the spectators and the lovely weather. The racing was very good but the numbers of horses was slightly reduced due to the firmer ground," he said.

"We made a few changes to the layout this year. We didn't have any trade stalls inside the course so the view for the spectators was much better."

There were six races including the Hunt Race, which saw six horses line-up. Odds-on favourite Gateway, ridden by Hannah Grissell, found little competition to surge well clear of the field.

The Men's Open was won by organiser Andrew Hickman on Ballinure Boy, ahead of Supreme Irony and Pampered Gale.
