H&B ran riot against an under-manned Lordswood side at Ark William Parker Academy, so much so that the referee halted the Kent One game 10 minutes early to spare the visitors further punishment with the score already 104-0.

Lordswood - who won their opening league match of the season the previous weekend - arrived with only 13 players, seven of whom came from their second XV.

H&B made only one change to the previous week’s starting line-up, with Robin Brereton coming in for the unavailable Joe Umpleby at hooker.

From the kick-off there was only one team in it. H&B were 42 points up in a quarter-of-an-hour when one of the Lordswood player’s 59-year-old father came on to reinforce their pack.

The majority of the 16 H&B tries were scored under the posts and Harry Foster converted 12 of them. Tries came from Tim Sills (4), Foster (3), Mark Piotrowski (3), Ben Campbell (2), Harry Walker, Jimmy Adams, Chas Ackerley and Elliot Parry.

During the preceding week H&B had benefited from the coaching skills and enthusiasm of former captain Steve Pepper, who was here from Australia visiting family.

Pepper is a level three coach in Australia and instilled in the players the importance of concentration on the game and their individual tasks.

After the game Pepper said he was very pleased with the performance, especially the balance of the team and the fact that H&B remained focused throughout. Jimmy Adams led the side well and his continuous workrate is a good example to all around him.

“The club has some excellent prospects coming through,” said Pepper. “This matches well with the experience brought by Kit Claughton, Steve McManus, Piotrowski and Campbell.”
