REBELS FLY ON

BEN CARRINGTON struck 10 minutes from time against Croydon Athletic at Woodside on Tuesday with the goal which separated sides with virtually identical records.

Athletic showed why they are where they are with a system that swamped midfield and restricted Rebels to sending in hopeful diagonal balls from full-backs Owen Hill and Chris Dicker. But Worthing were not off the pace.

Their constant flow of crosses should have resulted in Athletic trailing by two or three goals but resolute defending and keeper Robert Frankland's fine performance kept the score level.

After the second period started the same way, Athletic became more adventurous and 14 minutes from time Rebels' Ross Standen, at the feet of Nigel Webb, made a save that turned the game.
