RELAY COMES TO BEXHILL

HASTINGS Athletic Club have moved their seafront relays to Bexhill after deciding the cycle lanes along the promenade make conditions impractical for runners.

Ladies team manager and membership secretary Roland Garrod said: In my opinion the cycle lane makes it too dangerous for serious athletes who don t want to be constantly on the lookout for cyclists.

A temporary traffic order would be too expensive and the tactile paving and raised white lines make an uneven surface which is not helpful for the runners.

Our presence in Bexhill has been welcomed with great enthusiasm and assistance from Rother District Council, including generous financial help for which the club is very grateful.

The races will be held on September 22 next to Bexhill sailing club with the first event starting at 10.30am and finishing around 4.30pm.
