Rifle Shooting Championship

SUNDAY'S annual rifle shooting prize meeting turned out to be a Horsham benefit as all bar one of the nine podium places at stake, fell to the Horsham Rifle Club, for whom George Cotton was on top form, winning two of the three matches and leading the twelve finalists for the County Championship title which will be decided on 24 June.

Although at first glance the conditions on the open Bisley ranges seemed reasonably friendly, the tricky Northerly wind was playing tricks to catch those who failed to stay alert.

In the Association Cup, requiring ten shots at 300 and 500 yards, Cotton posted an early notice of intent with double maximums and only three of his twenty shots outside the tie-breaking smaller central ring.

His Club colleagues Tim Brooking and Mike Ball were close behind, each dropping a single point but with 14 and 13 centrals respectively
