Roberts maintains sparkling form

BEXHILL recorded an important victory over East Grinstead to keep pace with the leaders in Division Two of the Sussex Cricket League.

Australian skipper Sam Roberts proved to be the decisive factor once more as he grabbed 5-72 to keep the hosts' run rate down. Steve Pollard hit 80 as East Grinstead finished on 182-7.

Roberts enjoyed another fine knock in reply, reaching 83 not out to lead his team home with five wickets to spare. Opener Martin Barry also hit form with 60.

This was Bexhill's third victory in four games, surpassing the two they managed all season last summer.

The poor form of last term seems to have been passed to neighbours Sidley.

Without a win this campaign they slipped to another defeat, this time away to Roffey after declaring on 180-9.

Ivor Lawrence (57) and Mick Webb (51) made sure Roffey overhauled the total as they finished on 184-4.
