Roberts ton guides Bexhill to victory

SAM Roberts may have called for his team to stop relying on the club's top players but he is still able to win a match virtually by himself.

Bexhill's Australian skipper destroyed the Stirlands bowling to hit his first century of the campaign and overtake a daunting 196-5 declared set by the hosts.

Fellow Australian Peter Cross (61) was star man for the home side.

Roberts (3-73) also did well with the ball, but it was his innings of 109 not out that won the day as Bexhill surpassed the target to finish on 199-6.

Ryan Bonner (4-74) was the pick of the Stirlands bowlers.

Neighbours Sidley were probably wishing they had someone as handy with the willow as they were dismissed for a meagre 66 away to Preston Nomads.

Former Sussex player Michael Strong (6-16) was responsible for most of the damage, before Willie Warne (29 not out) guided Preston to 67-3 in reply.
