Roffey bounce back in cup after '˜embarrassing' defeat

They booked their spot in the regional final with a six-wicket victory over Reigate Priory.

Davies’ side are well on their way to the last 32 with victory in the third round of the area stage of the competition on Sunday.

Roffey will now go through to face Weybridge in the fourth round and final area group stage on June 19.

Even more amazing was it came less than 24 hours after the Sussex Premier League champions suffered an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat to East Grinstead on Saturday.

They were skittled for just 52, before their rivals knocked off the score without loss.

On how they bounced back just a day later, Davies said: “I just said it’s up to us to turn it around, there were 11 boys in the dressing room that all felt embarrassed of a performance like that.

“We then played really, really well which was especially pleasing after Saturday. What was nice was having a game so soon after that we were able to get out there and put it right.

“We are at Weybridge in the area finals and everyone at the club loves this competition. All the fans are looking forward to a day out.

“We love it in the one-day competitions, it seems to suit our bowling attack and it’s nice to be going forward in it. It’s the third time in four years we have been this far and hopefully we can get through to the next stage like we did last year.

“But we will take one game at a time, we have got to beat Weybridge first and I think they will be a very strong side.

“I have spoken to a few people and they have a very good young squad, similar to ourselves, We will relish it and no doubt a lot of Roffey fans will want to see a good show.”

On their league campaign, Davies added: “We have got a big game against Nomads on Saturday. I said to the boys it’s just what we need, a few big games coming up to get us going. We have ground to make up, but it is a long old season, we’ll have to win all the games we can and see where that takes us.”
