Rooks rue missed chances as Rocks snatch points

A Luke Nightingale header five minutes after the break was enough to win the game for the visitors, but the goal was shrouded in controversy.

First Nightingale's header came directly from a Scott Chamberlain free kick from the right '“ a free kick the Lewes players clearly disputed.

Then Nightingale looked clearly offside as he headed in the free kick unchallenged.

The Rocks goal should have been academic as Lewes had more than enough chances to wrap the game up long before half-time. Paul Booth had three opportunities in the first 10 minutes alone, while Andy Drury also had chances to score.

One consolation for the Rooks was that second-placed Eastbourne Borough also lost, away to Bishop's Stortford, keeping Lewes six points ahead of their East Sussex rivals, although Borough still have two games in hand.
