Felpham resident David Rowe, 41, who has moved back to Felpham after 20 years living in West London, has secured qualification for the Ironman triathlon world championship to be held in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, in October next year.

Rowe took part in the Ironman Wales event in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, last month – his ninth Ironman race – where he swam 2.4 miles, cycled 112 miles and ran a full 26.2-mile marathon back-to-back in a time of 10hr 42min. Of around 1,850 starters, he finished 38th overall and was seventh male in the competitive age 40-44 category for amateurs.

His result secured him automatic qualification for the Ironman championship in Hawaii. This will be his second time at the event, having qualified for the event in 2013.

It has been held in Hawaii since its inception in 1978 and qualification takes place at Ironman events all around the world.

Rowe maintains a blog about his triathlon exploits at www.rowerunning.co.uk
