RUGBY: Littlehampton do the double over Crawley

LITTLEHAMPTON Rugby Club beat Crawley for the second time in two weeks on Saturday. They were made to work a lot harder for their win this week, but eventually ran out 17-7 winners in the Sussex League Division 2 West clash.

Littlehampton took the lead when Tom Lindsay picked up from a scrum to pass to Scott Elliott, who powered through to score.

Crawley's defence was a lot tighter than the previous week when Littlehampton won 39-5, and Littlehampton found it hard to break through.

Littlehampton then used the advantage rule and made ground as Gavin Simmons, Elliott and Paul Edmunds were all involved in a running move. Richard Russell managed to finish it off with a try which, as the first one did, went unconverted.

Dean Torode was shown a yellow card with 10 minutes to goal until half-time and was sinbinned, but Crawley failed to take advantage.

After the break, Torode's break was stopped just short of the try line, while after numerous scrums in Crawley's 22, Lindsay just failed to make the try line.

Torode then managed to secure the ball from a Crawley scrum and pass out to Bobby Mathews, he in turn found Elliott, who scored his second try, which Torode converted.

Crawley did pull a converted try back from a quick tap penalty, but it was too late to make an impact on the game.
