RUGBY: Littlehampton run in six tries to beat Crawley

A CONVINCING Littlehampton Rugby Club display saw them run out 39-5 winners over Crawley in Sussex League Division 2 West on Saturday.

With captain Richard Russell not available, Gavin Simmons took charge, and even with some changes in the front row, Littlehampton still had a good platform in the scrums.

With Littlehampton slowly making ground, they were awarded a penalty which Dean Torode kicked over.

The forwards started to find their form with a massive drive in a maul and Scott Elliott, in his first game back after three months out injured, took the ball over to score, and Torode converted.

With the forwards giving Crawley a difficult time and scrum-half Elliott on form, a passing move out to Gary Keirle saw him score.

Shortly afterwards, Craig Boddington also found the try line, to take the half-time score to 20-0.

Crawley came straight back after the break and their forwards put Littlehampton on the back foot and Crawley earned a well-worked try.

With the Littlehampton backs receiving plenty of ball and making ground, with the forwards in support to secure the ball, Dean Torode made a break but was stopped short before Matt Eames followed up to score, with Torode again converting.

Kevin Porter then off-loaded to John Singleton to score, before Billy Johnstone broke through to get the final try, which again was converted.

The game was watched by Sussex President Roger Edmondson, who also stepped in to run touch.

Littlehampton are at Crawley on Saturday.
