Away wins for H&B and Rye

Hastings & Bexhill and Rye Rugby Clubs celebrated away victories in Sussex One on Saturday.

H&B got back to winning ways in the league with a 48-3 success at bottom club St Francis, while Rye achieved an excellent 26-6 triumph over Seaford.

Although H&B were only 3-0 up approaching the midway point in the first half, they went on to lead 34-0 at the turnaround with Ben Campbell scoring his second successive hat-trick.

Roger Roberts and Lewis Sealy also went over, while the remaining points came from the boot of Ali Coombe. Campbell added his fourth in the second half and Jimmy Adams crossed, with Coombe converting both.

Overall it was an entertaining and promising performance from an experimental H&B line-up, clearly determined to enjoy their rugby and ambitious to improve their game.

Full reports on both matches will appear in Friday’s Observers.
