The Worthing Raider played 55 minutes in the match, which the Combined Services won 34-28 against a Barbarians side coached by former Raiders coach, Ian Davies.

McGowan said: “It was really good and I loved every minute of it. It was a great experience to be involved in as there’s a lot behind the Barbarians history-wise and to be able to pull on the number five shirt, my favourite, was amazing.

“I’ve got a lot of time for Ian, I’ve known him for a long time and it was lovely to be involved and to catch up with him and to meet some of the other guys in the squad.”

On the game, McGowan said: “It was fast, lightning quick. We were a mix of guys put together, trained the day before and were then literally straight into it the next day. We had to try to gel pretty quick but it was good fun.”
