Bognor's valiant Vase effort is in vain

Trigger’s Army travelled with their supporters to Lewes and put up a great fight against a bigger and well-organised Worthing team.

Bognor attacked from kick-off, full-back Reid making great runs, and only a last-ditch tackle prevented a try. Shipp took a penalty but the width of the upright denied him.

McFarland was next to go close as Myhill put a delicate chip over but the winger was beaten by the bounce.

Worthing came back and a perfect bounce allowed their full-back over.

Shipp reduced the deficit with a penalty, then Noy went close and Brown tried a snipe but was short.

Worthing again broke to score after great inter-play between forwards and backs. This was followed by their next score as a missed tackle allowed the winger an easy run.

Bognor came back and Barlow carried strongly, closely followed by the impressive Nagi. A clever offload to the supporting Talman looked to have opened Bognor’s account but a forward pass was spotted.

The second half saw Worthing take a stronghold with two quick tries.

Bognor played some dazzling rugby as Murrey showed experience beyond his youth.

Trigger’s Army were rewarded with a move of sheer class.

Ex-Wasps full-back Hay dazzled the Worthing defence as he accelerated and raced away from inside his own half for the best try of the entire match.
