Following the latest lockdown restrictions from the government announced the week, the RFU have confirmed that, with the exception of the Premiership, Champions and Premier 15s rugby, no organised RFU or non-RFU leagues, including merit tables, adult or age grade competitions will be played before January at the earliest.

And that will hit local clubs hard.

Sussex All Blacks director Ross Hallifax said: "As a club we were not surprised by the latest advice from the RFU. Although disappointing the whole time there is no instant fail proof test or vaccine then a sport that involves high levels of contact would be difficult to play in its normal form.

"As a club all of our members have adjusted to rugby's "new normal" and we have seen new players and coaches join us across our minis, juniors, girls, women's and men's teams which has been highly encouraging.

"Income is clearly being hit however we are finding ways to generate funds where we can and we thank our members, supporters and sponsors for their ongoing support.

"We hope that when risk allows we can move forward to stage E on the RFU's return to rugby roadmap and possibly play some hybrid games of rugby against other clubs e.g. smaller sided games without scrums and mauls.

"Until that time Burgess Hill RFC, the Sussex All Blacks will continue to train and prepare playing touch rugby games internally and against other clubs."
