Championship-winning Colts are toast of Chichester rugby

Chichester got the win at Heathfield they needed to maintain their 100 per cent and celebrate winning the league title in style.

The pitch was dry but a stiff breeze affected handling and kicking.

From the start, Chichester played with intensity and within five minutes prop Joe Woods rumbled over the try line to open the scoring.

It took another 20 minutes for Chichester to score again, when Jack Davies intercepted a Heathfield pass on their 22m line and coasted over to score under the posts.

Just before half-time Chichester scored their third when Henry Ascombe held on to a loose pass and scrambled over to touch down in the corner. Danny Kirkpatrick’s brilliant conversion gave his side a 19-0 lead.

Early in the second half, Anscombe showed his pace with a mazy run to beat the defence for his second try. Nathan Tucker showed what a ruthless finisher he is and extended his side’s lead to 31-0.

In the last five minutes, Nat Jackson put in a couple of brilliant sidesteps to jink past the defenders and run unopposed to the try line for the final try and a 36-0 score.
