Davies, who left Raiders to move to Cornish Pirates at the end of the 2008-09 season, is now head coach at the Championship side. He brought his side to a wet Roundstone Lane for Raiders’ first pre-season friendly, ahead of the start of the league season on September 7.

Speaking after his side’s win, Davies said: “It’s great to be back, it was a pity the weather couldn’t hold a little bit but there was a fantastic crowd, which was great and I wish them every luck in National 1 next year.

“We played a lot of the boys who we’ve recruited from National 1 to try to give Worthing an indication of what National 1 rugby is going to be like and that’s what we did.

“It’s going to be tough up front in National 1 but I think Worthing will be fine and will end up mid-tableish/top-half as long as they can keep Kiba (Richards) and people like that fit and raring to go.”
