Worthing Raiders Rugby Club head coach Kieron Dawson lamented his side's wasteful nature following Saturday's home defeat to Redruth.

In a tightly-contested affair, both sides managed just one try apiece as Raiders slipped to a 10-8 National 2 South loss.

It was Worthing’s 14th league loss of the campaign and their first at home in 2016.

Dawson knew it was always going to be a tricky task against fourth-placed Redruth but he felt his side should have won with the amount of opportunities they created.

He said: “We definitely should have taken something from this one.

“For large periods of this game we dominated but just failed to take our opportunities.

“We had six or seven really good try-scoring chances and a number of kicking efforts but just did not take them.

“I’d be worried if we were not creating the chances but we are, it’s just a case of converting them now.”

Raiders are without a game on Saturday but return to action seven days later.

It does not get any easier as they make the trip to second-placed and title-chasing Old Albanian. Despite looking a tough fixture on paper, Dawson believes his team can come away with a win.

He said: “We’ll go to them looking to win.

“If we recreate the performance against Redruth and take our chances we will have a great chance. The pressure will be off and we can go to them and give it a good go.”
