England take Grand Slam - and Chichester played its part

England's under-20 rugby heroes went one better than the senior team and secured the Grand Slam with a comprehensive six-try 46-15 victory against Ireland in Athlone.

The squad’s Chichester trio of Charlie Matthews, Kieran Low and Rob Buchanan have all played significant roles in the five-match triumph.

Low missed the trip across the Irish Sea with injury but Harlequins lock Matthews was among the try scorers and Buchanan came on in the second period. Matthews’ moment of glory came when a break forward from Bristol’s Mako Vunipola led to an offloaded to Sale Sharks’ Henry Thomas, who held off one challenge before releasing lock Matthews, who dived over in the corner.

Now Matthews, Low and Buchanan hope to be involved when the squad head to Italy for the World Cup later in the year.
