Raiders suffered a 30-17 defeat at Taunton Titans in National 2 South on Saturday, which ended a run of five successive wins, and makes it a tough ask to challenge for the top two now.

Dawson said: “I’ve said before that our minds are thinking about next season already and where we want to be.

“It’s going to be a tough ask to get in the top two now as we’d pretty much have to win every game and we’ve got some tough away games to come.

“However, it might be a blessing not to be promoted, if we’re not in the position to be.

“We’ll have a meeting in the next couple of weeks to talk about the ambitions of the club as next season will be really important and one where we have to be promoted.”

Dawson hopes to keep the squad together for next season but impressive scrum-half Calum Waters is set to go to Bristol University. However, Joe Govett will be back after his university commitments.

Worthing entertain third-from-bottom Lydney on Saturday, with a 2pm start.
