Horsham rugby sevens success

HOSTS Horsham triumphed in the Sussex 7s colts tournament after a day of exciting rugby.

With many of their U18 players competing for the last time as Colts, Horsham ‘A’ ran out the eventual tournament winners beating Worthing ‘A’ in a tense final. The 19-5 victory was secured with tries from Joe Wilde, Christian Squire and Luke Mortell.

Their path to the final included a nail-biting 12-5 win over Chichester thanks to a try from a lung-busting run by Tom Hedley. Earlier victories over Brighton and East Grinstead came courtesy of tries from Declan Nwachukwu, Ross Wehrle and George Johnson, backed-up by outstanding defensive work from Rory Howes-Yarlett and Will McKale.

Horsham ‘B’ finished as creditable semi-final runners-up following fine performances from the squad of Joe Emson, Emmet O’Rahilly, Jake Lowe, Robbie Boylett, Cona Jackson, V-Y and Dom Hasson.

All the competing clubs expressed their thanks to coaches Bob Gates and Marcella Yeates for organising the event at short notice and hope it can become a regular fixture in the rugby calendar.
